A Message to the Moms Dear Moms, God gave each of us a voice and each of us the ability to praise Him through singing and playing music. Each and every child has the potential to praise the Lord through music. But that potential has to be developed. It has to be developed early. A music teacher, once a week, can not develop your child's potential. The only one who can do this is YOU! "Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God: for it is pleasant and praise is comely." Psalm 147. "Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: praise Him with the psaltery and harp. Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise Him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise Him with the loud cymbal: praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord." Psalm 150. So, clearly, music is not something to ignore. God has given us music to praise Him. He has given each and everyone of us the ability to praise Him with music. THIS ABILITY IS IN YOU AND IT IS IN YOUR CHILDREN. By the time a private music teacher starts working with a child, five to ten years have gone by during which the child's music potential has been ignored. For a child to be able to fully develop their musical abilities, they need to be taught music on a daily basis from the time they are born. THAT MEANS THAT YOU, THE MOM, NEED TO BE TEACHING YOUR CHILD MUSIC FROM THE TIME THEY ARE BORN. This book, "Sing! Play! Praise!" was written to give YOU, the self professed non-musical mom, the tools, activities, and skills that you need to be able to do this for your child. By doing the easy music activities in this book, your child will develop their music potential. They will be ready to start formal music lessons by the age of five or six, and will have the skills needed to quickly learn an instrument. Even if they don't follow up with music lessons, by the simply doing the activities in "Sing! Play! Praise!" consistently throughout early childhood, your child will be musical. By consistently doing the activities in "Sing! Play! Praise!" your child will be able to clap on the beat accurately, duplicate a rhythm well, and strum and dance on a beat to a piece of music. They will be able to sing on pitch, sing with a clear voice, understand the correlation between high and low sounds, and high and low music symbols. They will understand the basic concept of harmony, feel emotion and expression in classical music, and discriminate between the sounds of different instruments in the orchestra. Your child will be able to play simple instruments along with songs. With the help of "Sing! Play! Praise!" and the recording that comes with it, YOU can give your child the fundamental understanding of music that is necessary to "Sing unto the Lord a new song!" Psalm 149.
